WELCOME TO WEST RAINTON & LEAMSIDE
The village of West Rainton & Leamside proudly sits in the North-East of England. It is in the county of Durham and mid-way between Durham and Sunderland. Also nearby are Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Darlington and Gateshead.
We are a strong and active community of 1,200 households and we hope that this website helps you to find out about us!
Covid-19 has obviously affected every community in the world and ours is no exception! What has been amazing is the incredible response of all groups to the epidemic and the extraordinary ways in which this community has worked to keep residents safe, informed and supported;
Over 3,300 free meals delivered to vulnerable residents totally free of charge- and continuing to March 2021!
Church services gone virtual on YouTube and the telephone
The Youth Group compiling and distributing food hampers
The Brownies collecting food and toiletries for foodbanks and the hampers
The church making their autumn fayre (usually a village highlight!) virtual and selling cakes and gifts online
The Village Show going online with photography classes and outside the Jubilee Hall with the group 'Coronavirus Hero' category
Santa appearing to our wonderful Primary School children via Teams from the North Pole!
Julie's Deli preparing hot meals twice a week for distribution by an army of volunteers- totally free of charge!
The Village News still being published and distributed free to 2,500 homes
Our Care Home, Springfield Lodge, winning 'Carer of the Year' award and the County Durham Together Awards.....
.... and much, much more! You can keep up to date by following our Facebook page- just click the link below!
